Fünf neue Songs haben Hot Water Music auf ihrer aktuellen EP
zu bieten, und die Band gibt sich dabei textlich etwas politischer als in der
Vergangenheit – wohl auf Grund des aktuellen Zeitgeschehens, wie Chuck Ragan
betont:
“I think
we're living in a really volatile and terrifying time where people are turning
a blind eye to the hatred that's happening in this world and thinking of
themselves rather than the big picture. I think that sentiment is present in
these new songs the way it has always kind of been there in our music.”
Und was heißt das musikalisch? Gehobener Durchschnitt, würde
ich sagen. Allen 5 Songs ist gemeinsam, dass sie sehr direkt auf den Punkt kommen
und auch schnell ins Ohr gehen, zudem steigert man sich mit jedem Stück mehr in
Richtung HymRefrain, „Denatured“ dann etwas schneller und rotziger. Und „Rebellion
Story“ ist dann der Hit der Scheibe inklusive dem typischen großen Chorus,
bevor man in „Afar And Away“ einen im besten Sinne des Wortes netten Abschluss
findet. Kein ganz großer Wurf, aber ein sehr solides Statement.
